Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Gamaliel Onosode

Today, September 29, 2024, we gather in reflection and deep gratitude to celebrate the life and legacy of Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, a man whose unwavering commitment to integrity, excellence, and quality education continues to inspire and shape the work of Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU), a foundation he birthed eleven years ago.Although he is no longer with us, his vision lives on, resonating not only within our organization but throughout the communities we serve.

As a distinguished technocrat, administrator, and advocate for education, Mr. Onosode dedicated his life to creating opportunities for others, particularly through his belief that education is the cornerstone of societal development. His legacy is one of profound insight, he understood that access to quality education is not just a tool for individual empowerment but a catalyst for social transformation. His vision aligns perfectly with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasizes inclusive, equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

At GAMSU, we remain dedicated to this mission. Mr. Onosode’s foresight has been instrumental in guiding our programs, particularly our partnerships with grassroots organizations like the Dolly Children Foundation and Destiny Trust Children Foundation, where we have consistently made significant strides in providing infrastructure, educational resources, and community support to underprivileged children .His belief in the power of education to uplift communities continues to fuel our commitment to leaving no child behind.

As we honour Mr. Onosode on this day, we reflect on his contributions, not only to the field of education but also to the broader conversations around ethics, leadership, and sustainable development. His life serves as a model for how one individual’s dedication to excellence and service can leave an indelible mark on society.

In a world where access to education remains a pressing challenge, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria, Mr. Onosode’s vision remains as relevant as ever.

According to UNESCO, 244 million children and youth are still out of school globally, and disparities in educational access remain a major challenge. In Nigeria, millions of children face barriers to education due to poverty, gender, and geographic location. GAMSU is proud to be a part of the solution, driven by the legacy of a man who believed that every child, regardless of circumstance, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

On this day, we don’t just remember our founder; we recommit ourselves to his ideals. As we move forward, GAMSU will continue to carry the torch that Mr. Onosode lit, ensuring that his legacy of integrity, excellence, and unwavering support for education remains a guiding force. We believe that by continuing to provide access to quality education, we are not only honouring his memory but also building a future where every child has the tools to succeed.

Today, we celebrate Mr. Onosode’s legacy and look ahead to a future filled with promise, hope, and continued progress towards the realization of his dream.

“A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death, better than the day of birth.” – Ecclesiastes 7:1

His legacy lives on, and his vision continues to inspire all we do.
